Writing West Midlands and Birmingham Literature Festival

June/July to October 2019, Birmingham, UK

Deadline for applications: 31 March 2019

Writing West Midlands would welcome an Erasmus Student interested in helping us run the Birmingham Literature Festival, which takes place from 3rd to 13th October 2018. The Placement would ideally begin in June/July 2019 and run through to the end of the Festival.

The role would include the following:

  • Working with our Festival Director to help with planning of our events and activities, including liaising with writers, publishers and agents.
  • Working with our Festival Producer to help manage staging of our events and activities, including liaising with venues.
  • Working with our PR & Communications Manager to help raise awareness of our events and activities, including working on social media platforms and liaising with press and media.
  • A range of other practical work to help develop and produce the 2019 Birmingham Literature Festival.

We are a small, friendly team (six part-time members of staff) based in Zellig, on the Custard Factory complex at the heart the cultural quarter of Birmingham and close to the city centre. Birmingham is England’s second city, easily accessible from elsewhere in Europe and 90 minutes from London.

This Placement would suit someone interested in contemporary literature, English literature and arts event management. A good standard of written and spoken English would be required along with some experience of working with social media.

The Erasmus Student Intern who worked on our 2016 Birmingham Literature Festival said…

“I really enjoyed that I had proper responsibilities. I was allowed and encouraged to contact writers, like a real member of staff.”

To apply please send CV and letter of interest to Jonathan Davidson, Chief Executive, by 31 March 2019.

We will arrange Skype interviews after the deadline has passed.
