Writing in the West Midlands

The West Midlands is an increasingly exciting region for emerging and established writers – and for their readers and audiences. A growing cohort of professional writers are based in the region along with publishers such as Tindal Street Press, Nine Arches, Flarestack, Five Seasons and Heaventree.

There is also plenty of writer development activity, from one off writing workshops to writing groups and literature festivals. The Arvon Foundation have one of their centres in the west of the region, and we also have a regional Apples & Snakes project.

The West Midlands is also home to the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust and in 2013 the new Library of Birmingham will open, the UK’s most significant new library and one that will include plenty of literature development activity.
