Writing Squads

Writing Squads are for young people interested in creative writing – any kind of creative writing: poems, plays, stories, songs, texts and tweets! Professional writers will work with Writing Squad members to help them develop their writing talents. We will be re-launching our very successful Birmingham based Writing Squads in the Autumn and we hope to launch a further ten across the West Midlands during 2011. There will be two Writing Squads in each location (subject to demand), one for 8 to 12 year olds and one for 13 to 16 year olds.

Writing Squads started in Wales in over ten years ago, run by the Academi. We aim to eventually replicate their comprehensive provision of activities for children and young people interested in creative writing. A very successful writing squad for older young people is run in Yorkshire, again something we aspire to emulate in the future.
