Welcome to Writing West Midlands, the literature development agency for the West Midlands.
Writing West Midlands exists to develop engagement with literature across the region.
Through our Writer Development programme we work with emerging and established writers to help them sustain their creative careers. This includes offering training sessions and networking opportunities, including our annual writer networking day, The Writers’ Toolkit.
Through our Festivals and Events programme we build audiences for literature, including work by writers in our region. This includes running the Birmingham Book Festival as part of our Festivals and Events programme, and also working with a network of literature and spoken word festivals across the region.
Through our Write On! programme we give children and young people the opportunity to develop their interest in creative writing. This includes working with dozens of schools a year to bring professional writers into classrooms, but also our Writing Squads network (out-of-schools creative writing groups for young people). We also work with teachers and trainee-teachers to develop their creative writing teaching skills.
We also work to make the West Midlands the best region in which to be involved in creative writing and literature. This includes supporting a network of independent publishers, working with Higher Education institutions that teach creative writing, and brokering new opportunities for writers.
To get involved please sign up to our monthly e-newsletter by joining our mailing list or contact us directly via the contact form.
